BSNL Nagpur Telephone Directory
March 13, 2009
Gone are the days when you had to look up a big yellow book to find BSNL landline telephone number of your boyfriend/girlfriend, relatives, acquaintances, or people who shared your surname. The telephone directory used to be a must in every household. Now there is an easier way to find out BSNL landline numbers quickly using this
The BSNL Nagpur site offers search based on name / address / telephone number. So there is an opportunity to reverse engineer – getting name & address from the telephone number. This would have taken a whole lot of time & effort in the traditional directory
. The database is updated quite frequently, so chances are you can find the latest telephone numbers.
This also opens up a big opportunity for tele-marketing a product in a particular area/colony. Getting a list of telephone numbers in a particular area is now just a click away. And it adds to the woes of subscribers tired of unsolicited calls.
Nagpur Bird Lovers
March 12, 2009
A great website catering to the bird lovers of Nagpur city has been active for quite a while. nagpurbirds.org has a great collection of birds spotted in and around Nagpur. Many of us would be pleasantly surprised to see the variety of species and the amount of detailed information the site has. The site is being managed by SANIsoft and is definitely a treat for every Nagpurian. And whats more, you can also upload your photos of birds. (BTW, we also would love to host your photos of Nagpur, if any
)
Speaking about websites, Nagpur Municipal Corporation is available online at www.enmc.org.in . Its a step in the right direction and there are some services which can be availed online. Be patient if some links do not work or you do not like the user experience. In coming few years, we hope Nagpurians would be able to do pay their taxes (property, water etc) sitting at home. Are we asking for too much ?
Also Nagpur Police is online at nagpurpolice.org . It is a good website that has information about people who hold top posts at Nagpur Police, Nagpur crimes, traffic education, stolen vehicles etc. You can also file online complaints and view complaint status. And you can send general or secret information to Nagpur Police. We do hope more and more technology gets used for working towards a safe Nagpur.
IPL’s new venues
March 10, 2009
Seems Ahmedabad and Vizag have got the nod. And Dharmashala too might sneak in. Still not sure about Nagpur – will it make it ??
The fight between Lalit Modi and media is hotting up. Media is constantly raising the security issue, and of course Mr Modi is not too happy about it. He has been too busy fighting everyone to get IPL going , and he looks tired and exasperated. He holds an envious job of managing the IPL. But he will heave a great sigh of relief when IPL 2009 gets over successfully. We wish him best of luck.
Nagpurians save a lot of petrol…
March 10, 2009
We had a first hand experience of this today afternoon. While we were going around city streets, we found that Nagpurians dont have time to wait at the signal. Red, Green or Orange – all colours mean the same. We moved across fifteen different squares. Only three of the squares had policemen on duty. At the rest of the squares, there was utter disregard to the traffic lights. People moved around as if traffic lights did not exist, unmindful of the danger they are creating for themselves and others.
Those who follow signals end up looking like fools or getting run over by traffic from behind. At one of the squares in the posh civil lines area, We ended up being alone waiting for the green signal. Traffic flowed freely from all the roads at the square. We had to pinch ourselves to make sure we were not day dreaming about the traffic signal.
Be it a National Highway square, or city interior square or any busy square – Nagpurians dont like to wait at traffic signals. And they end up saving a lot of petrol. We think policemen be not deployed at the city squares as they unnecessarily end up making people wait at signal. After all natural resources are so scarce!
Holi Hai!
March 9, 2009
The festival of colours is here. And as usual it will be celebrated with big fervor in Nagpur. On rangapanchami, you cannot go around Nagpur streets without getting smeared with colours, Can you? There is lot of revelry to be seen on streets. And this is one day when you can zoom around city streets without the fear of police.
This holi, many NGOs have appealed people to do away with the holika ritual. Lot of tree felling is done to collect wood for burning. And it ends up reducing the green cover over the city. In view of the current water crisis in nagpur city, radio is abuzz with the “Tilak Holi” campaign. This holi is going to be a dry holi. Nagpurians are being urged to refrain from using water this holi so that they can enjoy water supply for a few more days. And natural colour shops are being setup to avoid chemical colours with harmful effects.
We hope you will use your discretion while celebrating holi this year. We wish our readers a very Happy Holi!
IPL Nagpur!
March 9, 2009
The general elections 2009 may just have brought smiles to the faces of Nagpurians. Thanks to the clash of dates between Loksabha elections and Indian Premier League (IPL), some of the IPL matches are being rescheduled to tier two cities like Nagpur, Ahmedabad etc. (We do hate the tier two tag)
It is being touted that Nagpur may be home to three matches of Rajashthan Royals. Wow! Well it does help when local boy Mr Shashank Manohar is at the helm of affairs at BCCI. And Nagpurians are not complaining.
We will keep you updated whether Nagpur gets a share of the IPL pie. Lets keep our fingers crossed.
Devendra Fadnavis goes online …
March 8, 2009
Speaking about election fever in Nagpur, We came across another website – this time of Mr Devendra Fadnavis. devendrafadnavis.com gives the reader info about the various achievements of Mr Devendra Fadnavis. It is nice to know about the various feats achieved by him at a young age.
Looking at the current issues section on the site, we hope that those will be addressed before new issues get added to the list. Also the “Talk to Devendra Fadnavis” section can be used by Nagpurians to put forward their problems, concerns, appreciations. These websites provide an opportunity for common man to get his/her voice heard. Rather than being pessimistic about getting a reply, lets first try to raise our concerns/problems.
Also going by the site, there is a blog section to look forward to. We would love to hear from you Mr Fadnavis !!
PS: We know we are being too optimistic, but that is how we are!
Nagpur Voter List “Search Engine”
March 8, 2009
With the race for Loksabha elections hotting up and the election dates declared (16 April 2009 for Nagpur) , Nagpurians are going to face an even hotter summer. The political parties have already taken their first step towards poll campaign. The sitting MP from Nagpur and the honourable minister of New & Renewable Energy, Mr Vilas Muttemwar has come out with a search engine for Nagpur’s Voter List.
vilasmuttewar.in is the site offering the voter search in Marathi. The site would appear very unfriendly in Firefox, Chrome , Safari, Opera browsers. We hope you have not thrown out your old friend, the Internet Explorer. The misery does not end here. You have to battle with getting your name spelled correctly in marathi. It might take some time, but once you have mastered the art you are all set.
When we tried to query for few names, the results were not very encouraging. We could not find our names which are in the voters list. May be we were not good with spelling our names, may be the database is not exhaustive. You decide. Go ahead and query . And be there to vote on 16 April 2009 !

Nagpur Roads and International Airport
March 4, 2009
Other than Oranges, Nagpur is also famous for its clean, wide, beautiful roads. It is one of the first things that any outsider would notice in Nagpur. And aren’t Nagpurians proud about it ? Well, some Nagpurians might not be.
Back in 2000, When Mr T Chandrashekhar was the Municipal commissioner of Nagpur, things started improving. Those were the golden days for Nagpur roads. For us Nagpurians deprived of comfortable roads, the clean wide tar roads were nothing less than a royal treat. And we had something to cheer about.
Looking at Nagpur roads today, we can say that many of the Nagpur roads are still good and well maintained. But bad roads also exist. And for many of you who regularly use these bad roads, things might not be as rosy. All we can hope is Nagpur gets another Chandrashekhar.
We do have some pics in our Nagpur Roads album. Check it out . These are only the good road pics
, but over period of time we will try to get pics of not-so-good-roads also.
And talking about developement, there has been a huge improvement in the Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar International Airport Nagpur over the last two years. Admittedly there are very few international flights, and you may have to go to metros to catch a flight to pardes. To make matters worse, the recession in airline industry has prompted airlines to cut domestic flights from/to Nagpur. So it might take some years for the airport to really take off.
We have some photos in our album Nagpur Airport . Have fun!
The Hitavada JCI Orange City Vintage Rally
March 3, 2009
1st March 2009 saw the old beauties of Nagpur come out and shine in all their splendor. The proud owners with their prized possessions turned out in large numbers at the Hislop College Ground. And the audience were treated to a fine display of the well maintained vintage bikes and cars.
The Hitavada and JCI Orange City organize the vinatge rally every two years. So it was a once in a two year treat for the Nagpurians to watch cars and bikes as old as 1922. Incase you missed out on the event, we have some pictures from the rally in our Nagpur Photos gallery. Enjoy the pics and let us know your comments.
